Oak Ridge, Tenn. (June 09, 2010) Kids of all ages can find something exciting to do at this year’s Secret City Festival, taking place June 18 – 19 at AK Bissell Park, because in addition to the expanded children’s and toddler’s festival areas, there is a new area designed just for youth. Parents will love the vendors, exhibits, and festival food lined up along the festival venue, but the kids are going to have trouble deciding where to begin their journey.
They could easily start off at the Ponderosa Petting Zoo, take a pony ride, or hop aboard a wagon and be chauffeured by a mule. Or they can splash around with Water Wars, the ultimate water balloon game where challengers are loaded up with buckets of water balloons. Each battle station has a water balloon in the launcher, and kids fire away, getting sprinkled, sprayed, or saturated in the process. If that’s not wet enough for them, they can head up the hill to the youth area and tackle the brand new Water Slide or the new Zip Line. In the summer heat, they’re sure to be festival favorites!
After cooling down on a warm summer’s day, it will be time to bounce around in one of the inflatables, race up the climbing wall, or do some jumps and flips on one of the two Euro-Bungies that will be in the children’s and youth areas. Maybe the kids will be adventurous enough to challenge a friend to a jousting session, bouncy boxing, or the obstacle course. Laser Tag was such a crowd pleaser last year that it’s returning to the children’s area again this year.
Make sure your kids bring their dancing shoes, because the karaoke machine will be on and the dance floor will be hopping in both the children’s and youth areas. The kids will want to check out Michael Messing’s magic and illusions, the Mountain Marionettes, and National Fitness Kids in Motion. Next, head over to the arts and crafts area, sponsored by the Oak Ridge Chapter of Credit Unions, and create something fun to take home.
Home Depot will have their workshop set up all day Saturday, and kids can have their fingerprints made and photos taken with Sparky, courtesy of the Fire and Police Departments.
Don’t forget, a special area designed just for toddlers will also be available. That area will include a Hay Bale Maze, a Sand Treasure Pit, and a couple of inflatables that are just the right size for toddlers including the Spiderman Bounce House and the Dalmatian inflatable.
A special admission price of $1 will be in affect on June 18 – 19 at the American Museum of Science & Energy as well, so families will want to stop in and see the final weekend of the “Snoopy as the WWI Flying Ace” exhibit.
