Oak Ridge, Tenn. (April 28, 2010) With the 8th Annual Secret City Festival less than two months away, enthusiasm for this year’s event is growing. Tickets go on sale May 3 at an early bird rate of $12. After June 12, prices will only go up to $15. However, a deeper discount will be available if you are a Recycle Bank member, as festival coordinators are trying to promote the festival’s third year of “Going Green.”
“We continue to offer great entertainment at the Secret City Festival each year, at both the free events during daytime and the ticketed concerts at night,” said Joye Montgomery, entertainment coordinator for the Secret City Festival.
“Our goal is to bring in bands that will engage a wide variety of audiences,” Montgomery continued. “Having a concert with several popular tribute bands reaches one genre, while having Chubby Checker perform captures another demographic.”
The concerts will take place at 7 pm at AK Bissell Park, June 18 - 19. The Friday night concert is co-sponsored by Pro2Serve and CROET, and the Saturday night concert is co-sponsored by Wackenhut and NetGain.
On Friday, June 18, the headliner will be Daryl Stuermer-Genesis Rewired, a new band featuring Daryl Stuermer, lead guitarist and touring member of the super-group Genesis since 1978. Genesis Rewired performs with a five-piece band, presents the acclaimed music of Genesis with pure authenticity, and includes a sensational light show that crowds will love.
That concert will also feature performances by Tres Hombres, a ZZ Top tribute band, who will be performing popular hits like “Sharp Dressed Man,” “Legs” and “Gimme All Your Lovin.” A third band set to perform that night is Break on Through – A Tribute to the Doors, with a song list featuring Doors’ favorites like “When You’re Strange,” “Light My Fire,” and “Riders on the Storm.”
Taking the stage on Saturday, June 19 will be the king of “The Twist,” Chubby Checker. Checker will perform many of his hits including “Pony Time,” “Let’s Twist Again,” “The Limbo Rock,” and, of course, “The Twist,” which spent nine months total on the U.S. best seller charts. 2010 marks the 50th Anniversary of The Twist, and festival organizers are preparing some fun ways to celebrate the anniversary during the festival. Opening for Checker will be The Atomic Horns, a popular regional band.
