Oak Ridge, Tenn. (March 10, 2010) The Secret City Festival was honored with multiple awards during the 7th Annual Southeast Festivals and Events Conference, held last month in Macon, Georgia. During the awards program, top festivals and events throughout the southeast were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the festivals and events industry by receiving the prestigious Kaleidoscope Award. The Secret City Festival received three awards in all – the Gold Award for Best “Green Gig;” the Gold Award for Best Event Within an Event for the USO Style Variety Show; and the Bronze Award for Best Sponsor, Energy Solutions.
The name Kaleidoscope was selected because the award committee felt the colors and changes in the image represent the many different festivals and facets within the events. “The quality of submissions continues to go up each year making it harder and harder to choose only one winner,” said Carolyn Morris, award coordinator for the Southeast Festivals & Events Association (SFEA). “It is a wonderful opportunity to showcase your event or community and award those who have worked hard creating the perfect event or festival.”
According to Festival Coordinator Jane Gibson, the Secret City Festival has become a prominent event in the festival industry. “We have been honored with numerous awards,” Gibson explained, “and what that means is that we’re doing something right. This festival is put on for the citizens of this community, to celebrate our history, and to honor the efforts this city made in World War II. Winning awards tells us that we’re providing a great event for our community to enjoy and that we’re doing our job of promoting our heritage.”
Other awards the festival has won in the past include being named a 2009 Top 100 Event by the American Bus Association, 2009 IFEA/Haas & Wilkerson Bronze Pinnacle Award for Best TV Promotion, 2009 IFEA/Haas & Wilkerson Silver Pinnacle Award for Best Promotion Publicizing an IFEA/Haas & Wilkerson Pinnacle Award Win, the 2008 IFEA/Hass & Wilkerson Bronze Pinnacle Award for Best Sponsor – B&W Y12, the 2007 Festival of the Year by the Southeast Tourism Society, and many more.
