Secret City Festival Not a Secret Anymore
Local festival draws in crowd from across the nation

Oak Ridge, Tenn. –(January 5, 2010) –The International Festival & Events Association (IFEA) held their annual conference and ceremony this past September in Indianapolis, Indiana.  The Secret City Festival was honored with a silver and bronze award at the event.  The IFEA Haas & Wilkerson Pinnacle Awards recognize outstanding examples of quality and creativity in the promotional programs and materials produced by festivals and events around the world.

The 2009 IFEA/Haas & Wilkerson Bronze Pinnacle Award for Best TV Promotion (ad spot or PSA) was awarded for the television commercial that WBIR-TV, one of the festival’s media sponsors, produced and aired to promote the Secret City Festival. The 2009 IFEA/Haas & Wilkerson Silver Pinnacle Award for Best Promotion Publicizing an IFEA/Haas & Wilkerson Pinnacle Award Win was awarded was for last year’s Secret City Festival Kickoff Event, which was called “Rolling out the Red Carpet.”  B&W Y-12 and the Chamber of Commerce sponsored the event.  A great deal of the planning was done by Jane Miller, so the festival committee decided that she should receive the award.

“Both awards are huge honors for the festival,” said Joye Montgomery, entertainment chair for the Secret City Festival. “The bronze award for the TV spot shows what incredible work WBIR put into the sponsorship.”

“It’s important to note that the silver award we received was in a non-budgetary category, so we were competing with the bigger festivals,” Montgomery continued.  “The gold award went to the Kentucky Derby Festival, and the bronze went to the Hague Festival in the Netherlands, so we are really making a name for ourselves nationally and internationally.”

The awards were given out on December 17 at the 8th Annual Secret City Festival Kickoff, which took place at the New Hope Center.  2009 sponsors were thanked during the event, and several renewing sponsors attended to show their support and present letters of commitment for the 2010 festival.  If you wish to renew or become a new sponsor of the Secret City Festival, please contact Amy Fitzgerald at 425-3554.

Other awards the festival has won in the past include being named a 2009 Top 100 Event by the American Bus Association, the 2008 IFEA/Hass & Wilkerson Bronze Pinnacle Award for Best Sponsor – B&W Y12, the 2007 Festival of the Year by the Southeast Tourism Society, and many more.   For a full list, please visit www.SecretCityFestival.com.
