Oak Ridge, Tenn. (June 11, 2008) A brand new activity called Water Wars will liven things up in the children’s festival area at this year’s Secret City Festival, taking place June 20 21 at AK Bissell Park. It’s the ultimate water balloon game where challengers are loaded up with buckets of water balloons. Each battle station has a water balloon in the launcher, and kids fire away, getting sprinkled, sprayed, or saturated in the process.
After cooling down on a warm summer’s day, it will be time to slide down the giant slide, or bounce around in one of the inflatables. Or maybe the kids will be adventurous enough to climb one of the two challenging rock-climbing walls that will be set up in the expanded children’s area.
Flumpa® the Frog will be back again this year to entertain the kids, and a new group, the PuppetoneRockers, will bring their 10-foot tall puppets for a show like none you’ve ever seen before. And make sure your kids bring their dancing shoes, because the karaoke machine will be on and the dance floor will be hopping!
The kids will want to check out Michael Messing’s magic and illusions, as well as the “Mad Scientist” that the American Museum of Science & Energy is bringing down to the Pavilion Stage and the Library. Next, head over to the arts and crafts area, sponsored by the Oak Ridge Chapter of Credit Unions, and create something fun to take home.
Home Depot will have their workshop set up all day Saturday, and kids can learn how to make their own musical instruments with the help of the Oak Ridge Civic Music Association in the Library on Friday from 1 2 pm. Speaking of music, don’t forget to stop by the Pavilion Stage around 3 pm on Friday to see some great performances during the Secret City Kid’s Talent Show. Not only will there be singing, you’ll also catch some other unique talents, including piano playing and pogo stick action.
The petting zoo, pony rides, and mule & wagon rides are great for kids of all ages, but remember that a special area designed just for toddlers will also be available. That area will include the Slime Pit, where creepy crawly creatures hide out in the dark; the Underground Tunnel, where toddlers will crawl their way through the tunnel of fun; “Bump & Glow” cars, so they can test their driving skills; and a couple of inflatables that are just the right size for toddlers including the Treasure Island inflatable and the Dalmatian inflatable.
